Is Argan Oil for Sunburn a Good Idea?

Natural methods for the mind, body, and soul are prevalent in the 21st-century.  One of them is carrier oils.  There are many carrier oils including coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, almond oil, etc.

Another kind of carrier oil is argan oil.  This is an oil that is one of the rarest because it is sourced from one location and it is time-consuming to produce.

Therefore argan oil is more expensive than other carrier oils.  However, when you obtain pure argan oil, it’s one of the finest carrier oils. What is it and is argan oil for sunburn a good idea?

What is a Carrier Oil?

Carrier oils generally come from plants.  They are typically used to dilute essential oils before they are applied on the skin, or, they can be applied to the skin directly.

Although carrier oils are natural, there are considerations a person should note before using them.  First, these oils have their own distinct smells.  Some of these smells may be pleasant to you and some may not.  The way a carrier oil absorbs in your skin will depend on your skin type.

You store carrier oils in a cool, dark place, but some of these oils keep longer than others.  In addition, when choosing a carrier oil, make certain who go with a 100 percent pure oil that does not contain additives.

You should always do a skin test before using a carrier oil:

  1. Apply a teaspoon of carrier oil to the inside of your wrist.
  2. Cover the spot with a bandage.
  3. Check the area in 24 hours. If there is irritation, discontinue use. You’re likely allergic to the oil.

What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is sourced from the nut of the fruits of the Argan tree, native to Morocco.  The oil has a nutty aroma, and it can be applied directly to the skin, mixed with essential oil, or even consumed. The oil is rich in vitamins E, A and monounsaturated fatty acids.  Because the oil is generally pricey, some manufacturers may mix the oil with other substances.  Always purchase pure argan oil.  You’ll probably pay more for it than other oils, but the superior oil is worth the money.

Argan oil is excellent for treating dry hair, dry lips, dry skin, and the appearance of wrinkles.  Is argan oil for sunburn a good idea?  Yes, it is.

There are many conventional products to treat sunburns.  But what if you’re looking for a natural way to address the condition?  Argan oil is a natural way to soothe burned skin.

All you have to do is apply argan oil to the sunburned areas of your skin. In most cases, you will experience immediate relief.  However, use argan oil twice daily until the condition improves.

Then, take care to protect your skin from the sun when you expose your skin again. Just one sunburn can contribute to skin cancer, a condition that can lead to death if not treated.

As mentioned above, before using a carrier oil, like argan oil, do a skin test.  In addition, if you are allergic to tree nuts, do not use argan oil.   However, if you’re not allergic to argan oil and if you are not allergic to tree nuts, the oil is an effective way to treat your skin when it is burned from the sun.

Liberally apply the oil, twice daily, until the condition improves.  As an added benefit, add a few drops of essential oils such as peppermint, or lavender for their soothing properties that help to reduce the redness and the sting of the burns.
